New Spinoff Side Eye comic: 'We destroyed mountains'

Toby Morris, 2021 winner of Te Puiaki Whakapā Pūtaiao / the Prime Minister's Science Communication Prize and Spinoff creative director, has released a comic in his Side Eye series about ngā Tūpuna Maunga o Tāmaki Makaurau and 'reckoning with the past.'

Morris' lockdown walks of Te Tātua a Riukiuta / Big King inspired him to explore the history of the Tūpuna Maunga, both pre- and post-colonial.

The ensuing comic speaks of the damage and in some cases complete destruction of the Maunga post-colonisation, in the process of building infrastructure and quarrying.

Morris met with TMA Chair Paul Majurey and management staff at Te Tātua a Riukiuta / Big King, to hear about the Authority's efforts to educate people about what has been lost, and repair the damage.
