Planting for the future of our tūpuna maunga (ancestral mountains)

This winter, the Tūpuna Maunga Authority is inviting volunteers across Tāmaki Makaurau to roll up their sleeves and take part in this year’s planting season. Across four community planting days, volunteers will help plant more than 13,000 native plants across the tūpuna maunga.

Maungawhau / Mt Eden Batger Quarry Wall stabilisation works- Phase 2

The Authority will be undertaking works to stabilise the old Batger Quarry retaining wall located on the south-western flank of Maungawhau / Mt Eden.  

In the late 19th century (1800–1899), scoria and basalt rock were quarried from the site.

Maungawhau / Mt Eden bollard replacement

The Authority will be installing a new automatic gate to replace the existing bollards which, have reached the end of their service life. The Authority has successfully installed automatic gates on other Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountains), including Takarunga / Mt Victoria.

Takarunga / Mt Victoria Tennis Court and Bus Parking Upgrades

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority will be undertaking upgrade work on the dilapidated tennis courts and create a dedicated visitor bus drop-off area at Takarunga / Mt Victoria. The works seek to improve accessibility and the manuhiri (visitor) experience.
