Maungawhau / Mt Eden Batger Quarry Wall Investigation

The  Authority will be undertaking routine structural assessments of the old Batger Quarry retaining wall located on the south-western flank of Maungawhau / Mt Eden.

Work will be starting early August 2024 and is expected to take approximately 4–5 weeks to complete.

INVESTIGATION WORKS

Ground investigation work includes a visual assessment and a series of geotechnical tests to determine the structural condition of the wall and surrounding rock. It is a precautionary measure to ensure the health and safety of the Maunga (mountain), manuhiri and locals.

PEDESTRIAN AND VEHICLE ACCESS

A portion of the Puhi Huia Road will require temporary and intermittent closure to vehicles and pedestrians to complete the work. This is to allow our contractors to operate their mobile plant and machinery securely and safely. We will keep the roads open as much as possible and will close it while the machinery is operating. Signage will be in place advising of alternative routes. Puhi Huia Road will remain open during the weekends.

Other paths may be closed while work is being carried out and will be signposted.

The Maunga will remain open, though some tracks will be closed during upgrade work. Closed tracks will be signposted, and alternative routes will be open. For your safety please do not walk in areas under construction.
