The Authority will be installing a new automatic gate to replace the existing bollards which, have reached the end of their service life.

The Authority has successfully installed automatic gates on other Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountains), including Takarunga / Mt Victoria. Maungarei / Mt Wellington and Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill.

Timing of works

Work is expected to start late February / early March and will take approximately 5 weeks to complete.

Please note that construction timeframes may be affected by weather and/or supply delays.

Work and access restriction

This work will include forming a trench for power services to the new gate. This will take approximately 5 working days. 

During this period pedestrian and vehicle access to the lower carpark area and Clive Rd will be fully closed. Additional signage will be installed one week before works commence advising of closure timing.

Work is scheduled to take place Monday to Friday. 7 am – 5 pm, with some Saturdays, if required.

Access

The Maunga will remain open, including the tihi (summit), for pedestrians and cyclists. Manuhiri (visitor) health and safety is a priority, so please follow all signage and instructions from onsite construction staff.

Contractors and emergency services will continue to have access.

Automatic gate operating hours

The gate will operate during the Tupuna Maunga Authority's standard hours:

  • Winter: 7 am –7 pm
  • Summer: 7 am – 8.30 pm 

The gate will automatically open for any vehicles inside the Maunga when exiting and will not require an access code.
