The Authority will be undertaking works to reinstate the playspace at Ōtāhuhu / Mt Richmond, starting in mid-May. The previous playground was destroyed by a fallen tree during the Auckland storms in early 2023. The concept for the new space is Reporepo (Marshlands) with play experiences that include swinging, climbing, rocking, wheeled play, imaginative play, and sensory nature play. The design utilises locally manufactured play elements.
This new playground will increase community engagement and respect for the Maunga ensuring an enriched experience for all manuhiri (visitors).
Construction dates
Work is scheduled to begin in mid-May and will take approximately 10 - 12 weeks to complete. Construction will be Monday to Friday (and Saturday morning, where required) during work hours to limit disturbance to neighbours. Please note there could be delays due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Visitor access
Pedestrian, cycle, and vehicle access will be maintained throughout the upgrade works. All entrances will remain open, however areas near the playground may be closed off to enable construction vehicle movement.
