Ōwairaka / Te Ahi-kā-a-Rakataura / Mt Albert Slip Remediation Works 2024
A large slip caused by heavy rainfall during 2023 Auckland Anniversary weekend caused damage to the Maunga and three residential properties at the base of Toroa Avenue.
Remediation works
The work will include clearing slip material from the affected properties and building a retaining wall. The retaining wall will protect the Maunga, reduce the likelihood of recurring slips, and safeguard neighbouring properties.
This necessary work will be starting in early October 2024 and is expected to take approximately 8 months to complete. The work is scheduled for the drier summer months to improve compaction of the slope.
Our contractors will need to build a temporary ‘haul’ road on the Maunga to enable trucks and diggers to manage slip the material.
Pedestrian and Vehicle access
Work will take place Monday to Friday from 7.30 am – 5 pm with the area open after hours and weekends for pedestrian access. Access to Toroa Ave will remain closed for the entire duration of works.
The road to the tihi (summit) and the Archery Club carpark will be closed off for vehicle, cycle and pedestrian access throughout the work period.
The Maunga will remain open however closed tracks and alternative routes will be signposted throughout the duration of works. For your safety please do not walk in areas under construction.
Emergency vehicles will be given access in the event of an emergency.
