The Tūpuna Maunga Authority welcomes Paul Majurey and Toni van Tonder as the Chair and Deputy Chair for the 2022-2025 term. 

At Authority Hui 81 (23 January 2023), Paul Majurey, of the Marutūāhu Rōpū, welcomed new members, and acknowledged the significant contributions of former members. 

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority has received national recognition for its leading work as the co-governance partnership between the Mana Whenua of Tāmaki Makaurau (Te Waiohua, Ngāti Whātua, and Marutūāhu) and Auckland Council. The Authority was established as part of the collective Treaty settlement of Ngā Mana Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau.

Paul is ready for another term of hard work to care for the taonga tuku iho that are the Tūpuna Maunga. He says, “it will be important to continue the focus on the vision and aspirations of the Integrated Management Plan. The Tūpuna Maunga are at the centre of everything we do at the Authority.

I commend our excellent management team for their ongoing dedication to the kaupapa for the Maunga.”

Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Chair, and now Tūpuna Maunga Authority Deputy Chair, Toni van Tonder, is delighted to return for her second term on the Authority. “Supporting the work on our Tūpuna Maunga of Tāmaki Makaurau is a humbling role to play. I’m passionate about this work and look forward to giving my all again.”
