The Authority will soon begin the Haydn Avenue Upgrade project adjacent to Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill.
The project will improve accessibility, safety, and road conditions along Haydn Avenue, while also helping protect the Maunga environment from damage caused by informal parking and increasing visitor use.
What’s happening?
- Pavement rehabilitation and road surface upgrades
- Drainage and stormwater improvements
- Formalised parking spaces
- Restoration and protection of grass berm areas
- Installation of a formal bus stop and layover area
- Improvements to pedestrian safety and vehicle movements
- Upgrades to ageing road infrastructure
The new formal bus stop will support safer school and manuhiri (visitor) access to Te Whatu Stardome and the Maunga, and will reducing unsafe bus stopping on surrounding streets.
Formalised parking will also help protect surrounding green spaces and prevent further damage caused by vehicles parking on grass berms.
Timing
Works are anticipated to begin September 2026 and are expected to take approximately 12 – 14 weeks to complete.
Please note that timeframes may be affected by weather and/or supply delays.
Construction
Partial closures will be in place on Haydn Ave throughout the construction period. Traffic management measures and signage will be installed to help maintain safe vehicle and pedestrian movements.
Access to surrounding areas will be maintained where possible; however, temporary changes to parking, vehicle access, and pedestrian routes may occur.
Work will take place Monday to Friday, 7 am – 5 pm, with some Saturdays if required.
Access
The Maunga, including the tihi (summit), will remain open. Manuhiri health and safety is a priority, so please follow all signage and instructions from onsite construction staff.
Contractors and emergency services will continue to have access at all times.
