Protecting the Tūpuna Maunga: Annual Closures in Place

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority will be closing Auckland’s ancestral maunga (mountains) during Guy Fawkes from Saturday 2 November to Tuesday 5 November 2024 to protect them from fires. This will be the sixth consecutive year the Authority has closed the Maunga.

Ōwairaka / Te Ahi-kā-a-Rakataura / Mt Albert Slip Remediation Works 2024

A large slip caused by heavy rainfall during 2023 Auckland Anniversary weekend caused damage to the Maunga and three residential properties at the base of Toroa Avenue. Remediation works

The work will include clearing slip material from the affected properties and building a retaining wall.

Maungawhau / Mt Eden Batger Quarry Wall Investigation

The  Authority will be undertaking routine structural assessments of the old Batger Quarry retaining wall located on the south-western flank of Maungawhau / Mt Eden. Work will be starting early August 2024 and is expected to take approximately 4–5 weeks to complete.
