KEEPING THE TŪPUNA MAUNGA PROTECTED FROM GUY FAWKES FIRE DAMAGE

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority will once again be closing the Maunga leading up to Guy Fawkes due to devastating fires in 2019 and 2020. This will be the fourth consecutive year the Tūpuna Maunga have been protected from fire damage during Guy Fawkes season.

Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill new auto-gate significantly damaged

Early this morning, Tūpuna Maunga Authority received news from the site maintenance team that the recently built auto-gate at the Manukau Road entrance at Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill had been significantly damaged.

Contractor assaulted in Tūpuna Maunga Authority restoration programme following Court rejection of injunction bid

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority began the next phase of native vegetation restoration work at Ōtāhuhu / Mt Richmond on 24 July 2023, including health and safety work required after the flood and cyclone earlier this year. This follows the previous planting of some 19,000 native plants at Ōtāhuhu.

Flood and storm damage & vegetation restoration on Ōtāhuhu / Mt Richmond

Ōtāhuhu / Mt Richmond is one of fourteen Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountains) managed by the Tūpuna Maunga Authority following their return to Mana Whenua, iwi, and hapū of Tāmaki Makaurau in 2014.

Nau mai haere mai! Calling for volunteers for our annual planting days 2023

Our annual Mahi on the Maunga community planting series is about to kick off and we need volunteers. Please join us in our on-going mahi to restore native vegetation and habitats for native wildlife. This year we are aiming to plant over 53,000 native plants and shrubs.

World-class boardwalk extension at Maungawhau / Mt Eden restores tihi

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority has opened the much-anticipated extension to the innovative and award-winning boardwalk on Maungawhau / Mt Eden. The extension now allows for a fuller visitor walking experience around the tihi of the Maunga.

May 9 weather event – Tūpuna Maunga operational update

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority operational team have completed a series of site inspections yesterday and this morning. Minimal damage has occurred following the weather event that began on the morning of Tuesday 9 May 2023.

Remediation works begin on Tūpuna Maunga

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority will be undertaking remedial tree removal works today and tomorrow on Te Kōpuke / Tītīkōpuke / Mt St John and Ōhinerau / Mt Hobson. A large mature pine tree has fallen on the Ōhinerau track and a large olive tree has fallen on TīTīkōpuke.
