Tūpuna Maunga Authority considers implications of Court Decision on Ōwairaka / Mount Albert Native Vegetation Restoration

Today, the Court of Appeal granted the appeal opposing the Tūpuna Maunga Authority’s integrated native vegetation restoration programme. In doing so, it overturned the High Court’s decision rejecting the appeal.  

The Authority will take advice and consider its options, including seeking the guidance of the Supreme Court.

Guy Fawkes 2021 - Time again to protect the Tūpuna Maunga

The Tūpuna Maunga o Tāmaki Makaurau have provided safe haven for us all during the 2021 Covid-19 lockdowns (as they did last year), and now it’s our turn to protect these precious taonga. The Maunga will be closed to the public in the evenings during Guy Fawkes 2021.

Tūpuna Maunga Authority amplifies plea: Respect your Maunga during lockdown

As Tāmaki Makaurau moves to Alert Level 3, the Tūpuna Maunga Authority is redoubling its plea to Aucklanders to respect their Maunga. The past five weeks have seen dramatically increased visits to the beautiful ancestral mountains, as the community gets outside to get some exercise and reconnect with nature.

Community in spades for Maunga winter planting season

Community volunteers, schools, Department of Conservation and Department of Corrections personnel have provided significant support for this year’s annual Tūpuna Maunga planting programme. Between May and August, 41,000 native plants take root in the whenua across eight of the Tūpuna Maunga of Tāmaki Makaurau.
