Atarau event at Maungauika / North Head, Devonport cancelled

Atarau, a two-day art, light and sound event scheduled for this weekend 21-22 March at Maungauika / North Head in Devonport has been cancelled. Auckland-based event organisers Social Ritual made the decision as a precautionary measure to reduce risk of the spread of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus).

Stardome gains long-term security from the Tūpuna Maunga Authority

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority is pleased to confirm that the popular Stardome Observatory and Planetarium has been granted a long-term lease at Auckland’s Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill through to 2034.

Maintenance of Maungauika / North Head tunnels underway

Work is underway at Maungauika / North Head in Devonport to maintain parts of the historic defence tunnels. The work includes reinforcing some of the original iron struts within the concrete structures and giving additional strength to lintels above doorways.

Māngere Mountain fire: Tūpuna Maunga Authority working with FENZ

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority is working closely with Fire and Emergency New Zealand to understand the cause of today’s fire on Te Pane o Mataoho / Te Ara Pueru / Māngere Mountain. Early reports from Fire and Emergency is that they are treating the fire as suspicious.

The unlawful occupation of Ōwairaka / Mt Albert by protestors opposed to the Tūpuna Maunga Authority’s restoration plans for the maunga has now entered a third week.

Paul Majurey, Chair of the Tūpuna Maunga Authority, confirms that attempts to agree arrangements for a meeting with the protest group blocking access to Ōwairaka / Mt Albert have met with resistance to date.

Ōwairaka / Mount Albert Trees

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority continues to work towards delivering the plan for the ecological restoration of Ōwairaka / Mount Albert, which includes the removal of 345 exotic trees and the planting of 13,000 new native trees and shrubs.
